Evolution Of HSS

As the concept of Corporate Responsibility has evolved, IAMGOLD has evolved along with it. The development of our Health, Safety and Sustainability practice has and continues to be an integral part of our organizational culture and history and this history signifies a long standing commitment to improving our performance year over year.

  1. Our Community Relations Handbook and Audit Tool was developed.
  2. IAMGOLD established the largest public-private company partnership in the history of the Canadian Development Agency (CIDA), working with Plan Canada to create a program for improving educational opportunities and job training for the youth of Burkina Faso.
We achieved a landmark year for biodiversity at IAMGOLD, formalizing a strategy, site guidelines, and assessment process for understanding the regional biodiversity of our host communities.
The Mind Body Achievement (MBA) program was established to inspire workers to become great safety leaders.
  1. The IAMGOLD Zero Harm vision was introduced,
  2. The Significant Incident Reporting (SIR) and Incident Causation Analysis Method (ICAM) were established to track health, safety, and environmental incidents.

This culminated in the development of 4000 ideas from our employees for improving health, safety, sustainability, productivity and cost containment.
  1. IAMGOLD adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines for sustainability reporting and released its inaugural Health, Safety and Sustainability (HSS) Report.
  2. The Health, Safety and Environment Committee and Health and Safety Management Framework were jointly established to cover the policies and governance of our commitment to sustainability.
  3. IAMGOLD cofounded the Devonshire Initiative (DI).
